Welcome to Thornton Beach Holiday Park near Whakatane in the beautiful Bay of Plenty. Thornton Beach is a superb destination for a fantastic New Zealand family holiday. We have many great campsites available and offer various types of accommodation to suit all needs and budgets.
Completely renovated in 2007/2008 we now have a brand new purpose built ablution block that features family size showers, high chairs, internet access, coffee machine, TV room and book exchange as well as clean, spacious washrooms, a modern and functional kitchen and laundry.
We have wheelchair access facilities as well as a baby bath. Over summer we have the surf lifeguards keeping everyone safe on the beach and we also run a children's programme over the peak time. Weather permitting we screen kids movies as night to give the parents a bit of free time. This year's additions included a new playground, jumping pillow and bike/games hire.
Thornton Beach is also a fisherman's haven. Aptly named the 'Kahawai Capital of New Zealand', land-based anglers can fish towards Whale Island from the beach with a surfcasting rod and if you go out boating, you won't be disappointed with your catch. The boat ramp is only 200m from the park entrance and launching is easy.
The views from our holiday park are spectacular. Whale Island is right in front of you and White Island, New Zealand's only live marine volcano can be seen in the distance. The stunning sandy beach stretches out right at our doorstep and the river on the other side of our holiday park offers great water sports opportunities. There is so much to do - from spectacular bushwalks to shopping in Whakatane or lazy beach days - we have it all.
Here at the holiday park we are doing our best to protect our fragile environment and we are currently the only holiday park in the North Island to be Green Globe benchmarked.
