An oasis of rustic elegance on one of New Zealand's purest rivers. From the front deck you can just about cast a fishing line into the mighty Mokihinui River. Your hosts, Susan Cook and Marion 'Weasel' Boatwright, hand-built the lodge in an elegant rustic style, evoking the area's rich pioneering history. Susan's a Kiwi, former journalist, keen hiker & trained cook, while Weasel also owns a guest inn in the mountains of North Carolina, where he is from. We're both Mountain Safety Council instructors and love sharing our knowledge of the surrounding area with guests.

We're an easy 40 minutes drive north of Westport. Conveniently located midway between Westport and Karamea, we recommend guests stay at least two nights. A favourite activity is the nearby famous Charming Creek Walkway, a half-day walk with waterfalls, tunnels and excellent picnic spots. A full day can be spent visiting Karamea and the spectacular Honeycomb Hill Caves and Oparara Arches. The historic Denniston Plateau is 30 minutes away, while miles of deserted beaches are just downriver.

We specialise in working with small exclusive-use groups, and will tailor our services to your needs. We're a special venue for beautiful and stress-free wedding.
