Waimangu Volcanic Valley was created only 'yesterday', as a direct result of the 1886 Tarawera Volcanic Eruption. It features huge hot water lakes, beautiful sinter terraces, hot springs and a diverse, specialised native forest growing down to the very edge of hot water lakes.

Ancient Waiotapu is 70,000 years old. A well-known visitor attraction and home to bubbling mud pools, hot springs, collapsed craters and the famous Lady Knox Geyser.
