Te Puna Quarry Park is being developed by a dedicated band of volunteers from a disused quarry into a world class park.
This former scar on the hillside is now a place of special beauty. From the upper levels there is a spectacular panoramic view out over the Bay of Plenty. There are ponds, tree ferns, cymbidium orchids by the thousand, native tree plantings, exotics such as vireya rhododendrons and a natural amphitheatre.
Special areas being developed include irises, cacti and succulents, an Australian area, a native arboretum, a bonsai corner, a South African area and a palm grove. Featured throughout the park are stone sculptures by local artists. The quarry has now become popular as a venue for outdoor art exhibitions, concerts and weddings. The walking tracks are easy for the moderately fit.
All this is being accomplished by the voluntary work of the Te Puna Quarry Park Society and donations from visitors and supporters alike are greatly appreciated.
This is a place to enjoy, a place of nature and tranquillity, of stunning views and great art.
