The Funky Lizard Cafe/Gallery/Gift Shop is the place to go for the complete stop. Come and visit the gallery and see the latest works by local artists. These vary from outdoor garden tool sculptures, corrugated iron hens/roosters, mosaic pieces, punga carvings, large koru carved out of cryptomeria and hypatufa pots and bird baths.
Inside there are featured various artworks on canvas including papier mache body forms, more mosaic works, handcrafted chess table and numerous other fine pieces of work. 'The Funky Lizard' Cafe/Gallery/Gift Shop is part of an old boarding house built in 1890 that was used by stockdrovers in the early years. With its oiled timbers the building still retains much of its magnificence providing an atmosphere and ambience unsurpassed by others.
The grounds, with their many trees and shrubs, provide a wonderful setting to sit and have coffee and sample the homemade fare while the smell of fresh baked bread waft through the air.
The food is made fresh on the premises and one is always guaranteed to find fresh muffins pizza and bread among the selection in the cabinet. The coffee is made from the finest coffee beans freshly roasted by the 'Fusion' coffee company and ground especially to suit your order. The liquor license opens up an extra avenue for your convenience to sit and enjoy a nice glass of wine or beer while you sample a cafe style meal.
