Enjoy an unforgettable Maori experience. Share our culture, get to know our people and feel the power of our sacred native landscape. Winner of the Venture Hawkes Bay Visitor Industry Award 2009.

This 15th century ancestral and archaeological site is undeveloped, natural and relatively untouched. Located in Waimarama, our coastal village is 40km from Napier.

You'll discover historic Hakikino, the special place where our ancestors thrived over 700 years ago. A friendly and relaxed encounter with ancient history, our tours are an excellent introduction to Maori heritage. You'll traverse archaeological remains of the ancient village and explore the scenic reserve. Depending on which of our tours you choose, you may encounter the warriors challenge, participate in the traditional welcome and meet local artisans who demonstrate their cultural traditions. Our luxury tour includes a meal with our family where you'll taste and hear about local seafood and traditional Maori foods.

A unique opportunity to experience first-hand some of the most important cultural and spiritual traditions in Maori heritage while exploring Hakikino.

The Hakikino reserve also includes a native plant nursery which has been established to conserve and restore native forests as well as revive traditional Maori medicinal and food sources. Local culture, flora and fauna are at the centre of the tours. Minimal impact on the environment is a primary concern, as we feature unspoiled natural resources.

As one of our guests commented- "Well worth going off the well-trodden tourist pathways. Thank you for generously sharing your heritage. It was a positive experience and one of the best in our visit to New Zealand."

This special journey through Hakikino offers insights and experiences that are both historical and personal and likely to last a lifetime.
