Classic Sheepskins' tannery is a major Napier tourist attraction, located within a 5 minute drive from Hawke's Bay airport and Napier's city centre. More than 20,000 people visit Classic Sheepskins annually and participate in the FREE factory tour, enjoying the step-by-step process from tanning to manufacturing.
After the tour, visitors enjoy shopping and benefiting from large stocks of top quality sheepskin products, NZ souvenirs and woollen clothing, all at unbelievably low prices.
Classic Sheepskins was formed in 1969 and is situated on its original site, 22 Thames street Napier New Zealand. Two of the original partners are still actively involved in a hands on role in the business, plus the son of one of the retired Directors has joined the team as Director and Technical Production Manager.
Considerable growth has taken place over the years, but from the very beginning FREE TANNERY TOURS were introduced. Yearly more than 20,000 visitors mainly from overseas visit Classic Sheepskins and participate in the FREE FACTORY TOURS.
These tours are unique in New Zealand and a truly genuine educational and "hands-on" experience. They are interesting and informative, following the raw sheepskin (a by-product of our agricultural industry) step-by-step through the entire tanning, manufacturing and finishing process.
Classic Sheepskins produce and manufacture a diverse range of products, car seat covers, sheepskin rugs, infant care baby rugs, bed underlays, sheepskin footwear - boots, slippers and moccasins, designer rugs, cushions and soft furnishings, equestrian products, medical accessories, industrial lines and novelties.
