Christchurch is the South Island's largest city with a population of over 350 000. It is also regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in New Zealand, especially in terms of its architectural elegance.

Christchurch now boasts well established, manicured civic gardens such as Hagley Park, the Botanic Gardens and of course The Mona Vale along the banks of the River Avon. Christchurch is well renowned to be the 'Garden City of the World'.

Cathedral Square - the heart of Christchurch is one of the best places to start exploring the city. Although attracting its fair share of tourists, it is also well used by the locals. The Cathedral built in Gothic Revival style and symbolising the Church of England bedrock of this city, is a dominating icon within the square.

Christchurch is still the only city in New Zealand that runs trams as a form of public transport. You can enjoy a trip around the inner city on these unique carriages. And there is plenty to see, with the cosmopolitan areas combining fun, entertainment, culture and history.
